Yale - From Hope north on Highway 1, visitors
can follow the same footsteps as those of the gold prospectors from the
1850s. Emory Creek Provincial Park is a peaceful and idyllic spot,
revealing nothing of the bustling frontier city it once was.
Cache Creek - North of Ashcroft is Cache Creek, known for its Jade Carvings. In the 1800s it was the centre of commerce for the gold miners and the main supply site. Cache Creek is the junction of Highway 1 and Highway 97, which heads to Prince George and Dawson Creek and on up the Alaska Highway. Kamloops - This city of over 75,000, called the "meeting place" from the Shuswap Indian word. Located in a valley where the North and South Thompson Rivers meet, as well as three major highways and two rail lines. Merritt - a
bustling community in the Nicola River Valley is a major junction for
accessing modern amenities, outdoor adventure and the backcounty lifestyle
less than two hours from Hope on the Coquilhalla Toll Highway (highway
5). The world famous Douglas Lake Ranch is just east of Quilchena off
Highway 5a at Nicola Lake.
Chase - is located at the western edge of Little Shuswap Lake, the gateway to the recreation opportunities of the Shuswap Lake System. Chase is situated 34 miles (56 kilometers) east of Kamloops BC on Highway 1 and 30 miles (52 kilometers) west of Salmon Arm. The lake provides hours of fishing adventure, swimming, or power boating. Chase Falls are just a short walk from the Trans-Canada Highway. Sorrento - Salmon Arm - Sicamous - The Houseboating Capital Of Canada. Shuswap and Mara Lakes is the best place to start. The average water temperature is 75 degrees F/21 degrees C. On a house boat you can see the sites at your leisure, and when you need to shop there are floating markets to stop and pick up supplies. Rentals can be arranged in Sicamous and Salmon Arm. |
